So today I got these new privacy settings boxes in Outlook and Word 2021 every few minutes. I tried choosing No >> OK then Yes >> OK but it never stopped.
Meanwhile, there were four new updates to Windows in general, three yesterday and one today, dated those dates, OK? We will come back to those.
So, before I do anything with those, I decided to update Office to see if it got rid of the privacy confirm / deny options dialog that you have to answer repeatedly. So a ton of Office updates for O365 and Office 2021 desktop pour in.
But after that and some more trying to remove the repeated privacy confirm or deny boxes, I see three issues in yellow in Word and Office account settings. One shows I'm signed in with an email I haven't even had for years. I finally get it to let me sign out of that. Then it wants to sign in to my @gmail.com account for my Windows Account, in fact, it has me immediately signed into it as soon as I sign out of the first one. I finally get signed out of that, then it has me signed in with an @outlook.com email address I don't really use. So I get signed out of that one.
And finally I try to sign in with my correct email, and I get this error message: "©2023 Microsoft Privacy & Cookies Microsoft account requires JavaScript to sign in. This web browser either does not support JavaScript, or scripts are being blocked. To find out whether your browser supports JavaScript, or to allow scripts, see the browser's online help."
Now, I have checked Chrome settings, and JavaScript is not blocked. I open Microsft Edge and as per a link I look at Microsoft Developer Tools and I get a ton of error messages that I have no idea what to do with but they are all Error or Warning and all different reasons why it couldn't sign in.
So in the meantime, I was blaming the updates. So I managed to uninstall two of the four Windows updates.
But at some point I discovered that by approving the privacy changes I had opened up a ton of add-on options for many ChatGPT plugins. Nothing against it, but my issue right now is not whether I need to experiment with a ton of ChatGPT plugins due to the ties between O365 and Office 2021 desktop. So I went and uninstalled the Office updates.
At some point I realize that the privacy settings won't let me change them unless I sign in but I can't sign in. But at this point, Office 2021 is working, or so I hope, and the privacy settings are off.
I also followed a link to get rid of old update files. I trusted that document as all those instructions were very familiar. I also ran SFC which found and fixed corrupt files and DSIM to restore it to the current version. I noticed when I did that there was a new later number for the DSIM than I had had, so it must hae updated that.
I want to correct anything that happened due to updates and privacy settings and so on that could cause future instability, be able to get new updates or the recent ones back if I need them, sign into my windows account, etc, and no more issues with Office.
If I HAVE to have the privacy settings open to stay signed in and get updates, fine. I'm happy to go all in or all out.
