Windows 10 Arriving On Xbox One 'Post-Summer'

I could definitely see this being good if they turn out to be good for something like folding at home or other applications like that.

When can we expect Microsoft of finally offer a new XBox One slim model that might have a few updates and new features (preferably new up to date hardware)? Badly needed, btw.

When WIN 10 comes to Xbox One, look forward to Xbox One supporting MS Office and apps.
Typing in Word would be amazing using the controller and an on screen keyboard. Can't wait for that experience.

you can use a keyboard and mouse, they spoke about it on windows weekly.

it would be good for uni students since they can use it as a desktop hooked up to a monitor.

Thankfully someone is smart enough to say Fall in the longest way possible. Its more like a question than a time. Hey what happens after summer? Oh Fall.

Whoever thinks they will release a 'slim' model with new hardware are joking themselves. The whole point behind a console is that everyone is on a 'level playing field'. You cant force your entire userbase into fragmentation. Half of them with weak hardware and the other half with slightly less weak hardware..

Windows 10 on XBOX ONE:

I think people are getting confused and thinking that the console will be able to run the same programs. NO. It will continue to have a console interface and Microsoft will decide on what apps to add.

The Windows 10 core code base is simply out of convenience for programming compatibility between devices. The XBox One may have the same core code but it will have anything non-essential to the console removed. Same goes for the phone.

Will they also be sending Xbones to the people who want to preview the new OS? I wouldn't put windows 10 on my gaming/production desktop. It's just not ready. I have it on a spare work laptop to dink around with. I wouldn't also do the same to my Xbone and put a potentially buggy OS on it.

how about discount the weak hardware and label the new hardware 60fps ready or something. games should work all the same, just faster on the new hardware

I think the problem is that Microsoft does try to incorporate Windows into Xbox One. Being an owner of both a 360 and a One, I can say that the 360 has a much simpler, better-designed user interface. The interface on the Xbox One is not suited for a game console, the 360 has the start menu with everything you needed. They want it to be the center of media yet on the One you cannot even rip a CD to the hard drive like you could on the 360 and listen to music while gaming.

Considering the update to add in W10 core code hasn't even happened yet I'm not quite sure what you're getting at. The current interface isn't guided by making the console more like a Windows PC but rather whatever decisions they've made towards usefulness and putting purchase decisions front and center.

I suppose the interface has changed, but then all modern consoles and tablets are influencing each other. My only huge fear is the money-grab that really crappy software offers to Microsoft, Apple, Steam and others by putting a STORE link. It's really, really bad right now and if Microsoft doesn't seriously filter it for the XBOX ONE it'll be a nightmare for consumers.

Um...what?
You're suggesting that Microsoft effectively DOUBLE the processing power and increase the memory and eSDRAM speeds proportionately so that new purchasers get 60FPS gaming while previous purchasers get 30FPS gaming?

We have something for this. It's called gaming on PC. On console you can't keep changing the specs. That just pisses people off.

Not to mention MOST people wouldn't understand what's going on, AND the fact we're not even TWO YEARS into what's probably an eight year life cycle. You going to increase the processing power every two years?

Have you ever, ever seen a console keep the same name but upgrade itself to become more powerful?

sega has done this with the sega CD and 32x attachments for the genesis/megadrive. NEC had the turbo duo, and the Nintendo 64 had expandable memory packs. those are just a few i can name off the top of my head
