It just happened today. I was trying to power on my laptop to surf internet. Then my screen froze up like 5 mins or more, after that i try to hard shutdown by unplugging and power button. Then turn it on again. After that "preparing automatic repair" screen appeared then send to black screen for 20 mins. Then nothing happened. At this point i was sure that something wrong is happening. Then i ask around using my phone browser. They said try to unplug, power on/off. Nothing happened.
I also try to f2, nothing happened.
I also try to f9, nothing happened.
So IT STUCK IN BLACK SCREEN FOR 30 MINS. And the solutions i tried didnt work at all.

My laptop spec:
HDD 1 TB (LOCAL and Data D)
RAM 8 GB
OS win 10
CPU intel core i7-4710
Graphic card Nvidia Geforce GTX 850M

You should have tried reset though same may have occurred.

the menu that popped up was/is the same menu I was trying to get to using the install disc, it is meant to come up after a certain number of failed boots... as it did.
If you have another pc handy, download windows 10 and create either a USB or DVD. We need this to get into Windows since its not working right now
Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
Use the media creation tool to make the install USB or DVD

now according to here: https://www.asus.com/au/support/FAQ/1008829/ you hold F2 in before pressing power, and keep holding it in until you access the bios. You need to do this to swap the boot order so that the USB/DVD is first and the HDD is second.

Now try to boot off the USB/DVD, if the screen is still working you should get into the windows install screen,
Now after the first screen that asks for language choices, select Repair this pc, NOT INSTALL

we will see if its just start up at fault first
Select troubleshoot
Select Advanced Options
Select Start up Repair

This will scan start up files to see if it can fix anything. It will ask for your logon password at half way. Admittedly this is what creates the 20 minute wait but it may not happen running off the Install disc.

Next I would try System restore from the Troubleshoot menu but this may not work - its worth a try :)

The last step should be to select Reset from first menu after selecting repair this pc. Select keep my files and Win 10 will be fresh installed on your pc but it will keep your files and settings - no programs

If none of these work, or you have questions, just ask :)

Don't do following yet, its just a reminder for me

Another alternative is the Asus recovery disks if we have to get rid of everything. I assume there is a recovery partition on board (probably hidden). It should have drivers and the such which will make recovery easier.

What OS was originally on the PC?

Is there anything on it you need to keep as you can put an UBUNTU boot DVD on your laptop and boot it from LIVE mode, NOT the installing mode. After booting in live mode, you can have access to your drive and files, and easily copy them to a removable storage such as external hard drive, usb flash drive, etc.

Something like choose an option appear which contains troubleshoot then i clicked on it there are three options. Refresh, reset, advanced options. I assume refresh is the safest way. So i click it. However when i click it, the drive where windows 10 is locked. Unlock the drive. How do i do that? Thanks for reply
