Windows 10 Audio controls not working

Okay so basically whenver i try to change my audio volume in windows 10 via the slider etc the slider lags and takes a few moments for the volume to adjust, any ideas as to why this is? Just to clarify, that is the only thing on the whole system that ever lags, just the dumb audio stuff

Are you using motherboard audio or do you have a dedicated sound card?

i5 6500, cant remember, 8GB ddr4 and its motherboard sound

Have there been any power outages or surges recently? Sound controllers on motherboards are very sensitive to any change in input voltage.

Audio is fine, no distortion, there is just lag on the controller, almost as if the volume slider is having to suddenly render something when i move it, cant really explain it
