Windows 10 backup

I suspect there is a problem with my windows 10 install especially since it's a version updated from windows 8. Regardless I want to make a backup of everything on my computer. The only exception is the game files. (I want to keep the save files, but I still want to remove everything else regarding the games) Once I have installed windows 10 again I will install the games I still play but have all my save files. Other than the big 30-50 gb game files I want everything (Save files included) backed up to an external hardrive. I have looked online and the windows tool is not backing up everything, can someone give me a link to a tutorial on how to backup everything on an external drive or reply below on how to do it.

Well it is only backing up around 30 gb of files and that is certainly not all. I'm unsure but I feel the tool is not picking everything I want it to

Another thing is that When I press backup it does it for like 3 seconds and then it gets cancelled
