So i wanted a fresh install of windows because i just wanted to migrate windows to an SSD, but when i went to do the factory reset windows deleted itself and now i have no os. This is very frustrating because this is a final product and the core features can cause problems like this...microsoft should be ashamed.
Im at a loss of what to do because windows is essentially gone and i have no way of installing it.

Wouldve been better to have migrated the OS, then do the factory reset last. Is this on a manufactured pc or a custom build? If its a factory built system such as HP, you should still have a recovery partition you can access and do a full back to factory spec recovery of the OS. The only way that would disappear is if you manually go into the partition and delete it during the upgrade.

In theory, there should be a recovery partition. However, from what I gather Norman is saying that this partition is gone as well.

I've already said that you can download Windows directly from Microsoft. What is there not to understand? If you don't have an optical media drive, you'll need to download the ISO from another computer. If you don't have a USB drive that's capable, then, you'll have to buy one. Sorry, but there're few options available to you.

Hi

Note only legal downloads of Windows 7 & 8 are retail versions not oem versions
They are only available from Microsoft
and you need to enter a retail key before download starts.

(Digital River is no longer supplying Windows ISO's)

However if you had a PC which was upgraded from 7 or 8.1 to 10
you should be able to download a Win 10 upgrade ISO using a microsoft supplied program then burn to a DVD or 4GB USB memory stick.

Are You sure your recovery partition has been erased?
If you boot up from a ISO or USB of gparted linux Partition Editor you can see what partitions exist and what is on them.

Hey sorry for the late responce but the PC is a custom build, and on the hard drive it was installed on the OS is completely gone. I may have a 4gb USB somewhere but im not sure, i would like the windows 10 ISO because i upgradee from windows 7 to windows 10.

Any chance the partitions are still on the device and the partitions letters were just reassigned?

Mr. Itmoba,
,thank you for your free advice. I got it the first time I read the complain and recognized it right away because today I am going thru the same thing. Three days ago my windows ten deleted itself from my desk top. I still have it on my laptop and it's fine today but so was my desk top until now. I will not pretend to know much and I see you mentioned that the ISO can be downloaded from another computer. can I use my laptop to help my desk top Sir? I do not have a windows ten disk or a disk for my original windows seven. I do not understand what an optical media drive is. Can you please explain in I am not ashamed to say in simple terms?. I also have to get a USB drive, can you explain pls. Please forgive the questions but I am truly lost as what to do and I can't do my homework. Bottom line, can I do the same that Microsoft can do to help this if I get a window ten disk? The OS is gone so of course you know I can't go any further than the screen that says, " no OS found, delete drivers not used, press ctrl, alt delete for restart, NOTHING, it goes back to the blk screen. I unplug, plug...NADA. goes right back to blk. screen. Now Microsoft is saying I have to pay for a disk or download. How dare they. This is their responsibility. They knew when they offered this windows ten free that it had loads of bullshit glitches, but we did not !!!. Then again in my country these multi billion dollar companies do not get so filthy rich by being honest and good natured. Sir, can I download on my hard drive or disk windows ten from my laptop and put it in my desk top cd player? Would it accept it? I will appreciate any help or advice or opinion you can spare. If anything I hope you get my message because I just noticed your comment is from six months ago. And thank you if you read mine.....Sincerely, Neena

you should start a new thread. WIndows does not really have a function to delete itself. It is more likely that it would be a hardware configuration error. IE the drive is not being recognized, the partition is not being recognized or the drive letters have been reassigned.

as for your other questions a optical disk refers to a DVD with windows on it.

normally for this problem, you boot into bios and check to see if your date and time are still correctly set. Often it they are wrong, it will be because of a battery backup failure which can change the BIOS sata controller setting back to defaults.
If the default is not the correct mode then the controller will not read the drive correctly and it will appear that the entire windows OS has disapeared. To get it back in this case you would just change the BIOS entry for the sata to be one of the other modes (most likely AHCI would be the correct setting but it depends on the year your system was built)
if that works you would be able to boot but each time you powered off the system you would have to make the BIOS change until you replace the battery backup on the motherboard.

REALLY WELL YOU ARE WAY OFF AND WRONG EXPERT! IT WAS W.TEN THAT DESTROYED AND DELETED THE OS. SO YOU ARE EITHER RELATED TO MICROSOFT OR NAIVE TO THINK MICROSOFT CANNOT FUCK UP SOMEONES OS. IT WAS NOT A HARD WARE PROBLEM MR. KNOW NOT
