A friend asked me a while ago for help, but I could not figure out what's wrong, so hopefully someone here can help.

Her Windows 10 desktop always have 20-30 shortcut icons and documents saved there. She always arrange the recycle bin at the top left corner followed by certain shortcuts. When she save a document or image, it will show up on the right-most column where the first blank spot is. She noticed that after turning on One Drive, all newly saved files appear on the top left corner. She tried all different settings, but nothing worked.

Google was just not showing me any results I could offer. Its stuck thinking I want to move my Onedrive save location and i can't think of the right terms needed to get past that obstacle. It makes me wish there were more search engines, it was better before Google took over and made it worse. All Google search is for is buying things... I did a library tech course, I have seen actually useful database searches and this... just makes me sad.

All files created on win 10 are auto saved to Onedrive - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...bda-b61e-8c8e8ca70ac7?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us - not sure if its relevant but might explain changes

could use something like this...

Hi, I don't have a solution for your problem, but I have a work around.

There is a program called DesktopOK that lets you save the desktop icon positions, and restore them whenever they get jumbled up or moved around. It's free and is available from here: http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=Freeware/DesktopOK

This will not solve the issue of icons being placed at the top/left though.

I will have a look around and see if I can find anything else. My friend Colif has also looked for you. Others are always welcome to help. If we find anything we'll let you know.

A couple more ideas:

Try this. Right click on desktop and go to View and be sure that:
  • Auto Arrange icons is OFF
  • Align icons to Grid is ON

Another idea is to create a new Windows User Account. See if the problem exists there also (after enabling OneDrive). If it does not, then the other user account has an issue and you should consider using the new account instead. You can transfer most settings from the old account to the new one. If that works and you need help transferring the settings let us know.
