Question from billy_ileris : "can't boot up windows and SSD not appearing in BIOS !?"
billy_ileris :
Hello Tom's community,
Today I turned on my PC and windows 10 did not boot up, instead it went straight to the BIOS and once there I found out that the SSD is not being recognised. This was a new build with every part at the time bought for the build which was around 8 months ago, its worked fine up until today. I am unsure if the issue is with the SSD or some connection on the motherboard (my knowledge of parts etc is very minimal this build was done with a friend of mine) although I have been doing some research and have checked to see if while the PC is running if the SSD card gets warm and it does (not sure if that helps) also I have changed the SSD to the other slot and still it did not work.
I would love a solution that does not mean I have to buy a new part and that I can use my computer and keep the files/programs I currently have on the SSD. (As I am in the middle of my uni semester so this is a real pain) although if the solution is a new part I am reluctantly happy to get one just not sure what the problem truely is and how to figure that out. Any help would be very much appreciated.
The List of my parts is below if that helps:
MotherBoard: Asus - PRIME Z270-P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
SSD: Intel - 600p Series 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Graphics: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB AMP Edition Video Card
CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: Team - Dark 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
billy_ileris, try the drive in another unit and see if it is detected. Also, use this as a lesson in backing up your data.
The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:
3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.
