Question Windows 10 doesn't allow me to select 4k resolution for an external display ?

I have a Gigabyte M28U 4k 144Hz monitor. I decided to plug it in my old MSI GE62 2QE Apache (i7 4720hq, GTX 965M) running Windows 10 via HDMI. However the maximum resolution it allows to set for the monitor is 2560x1440. The hardware obviously supports 4k resolution which is proven by MSI and Intel specs: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE62-2QE-Apache/Specification https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...4720hq-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz.html
I know that the specs say that over HDMI it supports only 4k 30Hz, but that doesn't matter for now, I just don't have a mini-DP cable at hand.
What do I need to do to fix this? I've updated the NVidia GTX 965M drivers as well as the integrated Intel HD 4600, nothing has changed. By the way Windows shows that the monitor is connected to the Intel HD 4600, but anyway it should support 4k.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Even if you did get your panel hooked to the mini display port connector on the laptop, the highest you'd get is 60Hz but at 4K, so that still doesn't meet the 144Hz mark. That being said, you're going to get 30Hz off the HDMI port when at 4K. As for your platform, what BIOS version are you currently on? What version of Windows 10 are you currently working with?
