i downloaded windows onto my computer from windows 8.1 just realized that i got windows 10 education. not sure if it makes a difference but its still not activated because i have not gone to go get a product key. should i get windows 10 home? also i use this pc for gaming.

Solution
I would get Windows home as Windows EDU licenses have use by dates where after the date, they deactivate themselves. Most people who use EDU get it through their schools and the licence only works for 6 months after they leave. Home has no such restriction.

Its up to you, if you can get a license through school at least its free until you leave the school.

Otherwise, Home is easier. You don't need everything that EDU provides for a gaming PC. You should download a Installer for home and install that on PC as you cannot downgrade install from EDU to Home, any other way.

Depends where you buy it, it could either be a USB or a link to a download site for the installer. The installer is the free part, you can get it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

depending on age of PC, it might be advisable to download from link above as the installer version on USB will be older than what is on the web site. If PC is really new, it might need the newest version to work well.

My pc is one that i built and i already have the windows 10 educational installed on my computer can i just switch like that or do i have to delete wibdows 10 educational and then download the new one? Also im fine with the windows educational deactivated

Edu based on the Enterprise version of windows, it has everything... way more than you need. To downgrade it to win 10 Home requires a fresh install of Home.

if you happy deactivated, that is fine. But there is no guarantees Microsoft, who have been lenient about others running deactivated, won't change their minds later and insert restrictions to running without a licence. I prefer to play it safe and use a licence i works.
