So the other day built a computer, it was my first ever build. Things seemed to go smoothly, a little to smoothly I guess and now I'm in some hot water. When I installed Windows 10 Home it worked fine, and I made an admin account, set up a password and hooked it up to my MS account. I went into the security settings so that I could set a pin and not have to type in my long MS password every time, but when I typed in my system password, it said that it was not valid. I clicked the eye, verified that is was correct and tried again, still nothing, tried my Microsoft password, nothing. On my MS account page, the PC shows up as having Windows 10 Core, and it shows as not having a serial number. My old laptop shows as having Windows 10 Home, and it has a serial number, so I think something might be wrong here. The internet has yielded nothing, helpful so far. I have attempted to change my MS password, which works, but still no dice. I'm running out of options and beginning to shit my pants. Please help.
Edit: The only way that I can get on the computer is by holding f8/ leaving it off for extended periods of time. Obviously neither are ideal.

if you already used your activation, then MS will "remember" that system, and you won't have to activate it again. There's been times where i've purchased used refurbed systems, upgraded them from 7 to 10 when the free upgrade was going on. once the upgrade was complete, i'd pull the old hard drive, toss in a new WD 1TB and install win10 from scratch, with no issues and no codes to enter in and everything activated.

The easiest way to reinstall windows is using the windows media creation tool to make a disc or usb drive to install windows. This can be done from any other PC, you just need to select the box that says for another PC. The other thing you have to do correctly is choose 32bit or 64bit.

As for all your data... what...

Being real nooby here, but all of my data will still remain on the disks correct, also, will I still be able to use the same activation key? And em, heh how does one go about doing that.

As for all your data... what data are you talking about... if... as you say... you "just built this pc"

Windows does give you an option to keep all data..usually, if/when it detects a previous windows installation.. thing is.. picking to keep things just adds more garbage to your clean install, and sometimes can lead to other glitches.. i always like to start from scratch with a perfect clean install and no issues what-so-ever.

For this new PC, where did you get the OS install and license key from?
