Windows 10 fails to load any updates

My Acer Switch 11 v S/N 54303875234 loaded Windows 10 version 1809 successfully but failed on the next update. Acer logo start process appears almost static with circle of dots not rotating properly even if left for 24 hours or more. Numerous attempts to restart fail. Sometimes screen messages appear either “please wait” or “preparing automatic repair”...nothing happens. No response when using Alt and F10 keys at the same time when the Acer logo appears.
Please advise how to Refresh the notebook in these circumstances

had struggled for several days and became a little confused so my explanation, whilst identifying symptoms correctly, was too long and would put people off.

I was able to resolve problem as follows:

Hold down the power switch for 10 seconds or longer until the unit shuts down.
Waited 5 minutes
Turned the unit back on.
As soon as booting started, immediately turned off. Repeated 4/5 times
Then let system boot and wait for Windows automatic repair process, which offers refresh
After this, when you let the system boot, Windows will report that it is starting the automatic repair process, and will again let you refresh (or reset) the system.
Possibly not necessary but returned system to the last automatic restore point and reinstalled Windows 10 (1809) automatically.
Perfect since then.
