Hi,
as an IT technican I'm facing kind of problem with upgrading computers in our company to Windows 10. We curenly have about 300 PC running Windows 7 Pro. On Computers is label With key or only logo label (licence on mobor or hw key).
According to article bellow there is still working options to upgrade your old system to Windows 10.
But my question is, is it legal ? If Microsoft audit visits out company can we pass it without some problems if we upgrade the computers now ?

OK I finally got the answer from Microsoft. They said it's technically possible but by licencing it is not right. So we have to buy some VL keys. That's what i need to know. But I don't understand why it's still possible to do it... Good for home users :)

I have a feeling the free upgrade to win 10 likely only applies to customers who don't have 300 computers running win 7 pro. They probably expect you to buy a volume licence.

I don't know if its legal but I have my doubts it would be.

If the current Win7 license is a volume license then you may run into issue s as the *Free* upgrade to 10 technically ended some time ago. I've not tried an upgrade since then to see if it still works or not.
Otherwise you can use the license from 7 to authenticate a new 10 installation without issue. That still works!

Business are typically the last to upgrade Corwin, usually due to incompatibilities with required software. At work we still have a few XP machine just because of this and the main core of our softwares is finally able to work with 10 and we've started rolling it out.

I know it takes a while, but to wait this long to come up with a plan?

We're just starting to roll out ours too, extensive testing and changes to processes had to happen, but, budget, licensing and planning were done years ago. That was my point.

Hi, no, all current licences are OEM. I tested it on few computers and all get the licence successfully, with clean install of Windows 10.

Please do not use the free version of the Windows 10 or get it from the reliable source because I have also updated the Windows 10 free version and it made my system corrupted. After the update, the screen went blue and it showed ERROR CODE 0XC0000428. I had to fix ERROR CODE 0XC0000428 to make the system run again.

There is no free version of win 10; There was a free upgrade for 1 year. amd a vast majority of those worked fine. The problem cases are only a relatively small number when you copnsider 400 million + PC have win 10 on it now, and most of those were likely upgrades.

There are free updates of Win 10 called version updates, they are essentially fresh installs of win 10 every 6 months and while it can cause problems for some users, most of the time - provided MS don't mess up - they install without a hitch. That might be what you mean but you cannot refuse the updates, Microsoft rather pushy about ensuring everyone who can is running latest version.

By saying free version I want to say the free version that is available illegally on the internets and it has been used by many of us to get the sofyware free. The free upgrades are there and it will be there. I think you get my point.

Considering how lenient Microsoft are regarding running win 10 without a licence and leaving it inactivated, its sad that people think they need to use a "free" version changed by people unknown to run windows when Microsoft already let you. Sure, the "free" version may not have a watermark on desktop but you also don't know what else it might have included for "free"

You can download ISO from MS, install it, click "I don't have a licence" and windows 10 will happily run without a licence'

Note: Re actual question: I don't think this applies if you run 300+ PC inactivated, pretty good chance MS have to draw the line somewhere. One person doing it on 1 PC is not exactly the same situation
