Question Windows 10 freezes on the Windows blue logo on startup ?

Hi all,

So I'm having issues booting into Windows 10 on my computer where the computer will freeze on the blue Windows 10 logo and the spinning dots underneath are missing.
I have re-installed Windows several times and used different SSDs but it made no difference. Booting via a recovery USB fixes this problem.

However, If I remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard, it boots into Windows 10 no problem. As soon as I put the battery back in, the problem returns. I have replaced the battery several times and changed none of the BIOS settings. I am wondering if the motherboard is at fault ?

my system specs are as follows:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 (rev 1.0) Socket AM3+
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
RAM: 16.0 GB Unknown
OS: Windows 10 Home Edition

Thanks for any help

I usually go for power problems first on my end so to speak. Btw, digging the OG specs there. Last time I saw an AMD FX CPU it was being installed in my first ever gaming PC on and MSI 970 Gaming with an MSI GTX 1060 3GB and 8GBs of DDR3 1886Mhz. What's your storage and PSU cuz that same scenario only happens if their isn't enough power for the system to full post. Also the cogwheel not displaying under is normal as you probably disabled it or something. Other than that look into power usage and see if that's it. Otherwise, it probably is the Mobo and needs inspecting.

hi, sorry for the late reply.

The problem fixed itself in the end. Perhaps a teething issue for the first X number of boots. I ended up with an FX cpu as it came free with a cheap motherboard I got. Tbh it's nowhere near as bad as people say and can run fairly CPU intensive games such as Civ 6 without issue. Temps stay well under 50 Celsius even at max utilization. The old FX does show its age in more single thread heavy tasks though. I found GTA 4 in particular is brutal on that chip.

I've heard that the Vishera refresh 8350 is a big improvement over the old Zambezi 8150 so may get one if I can get an 8350 cheap enough. Sadly can't overclock as my motherboard has no VRM heatsink and you know what FX is like!
