Windows 10 goes to blank backlit screen after few minutes

Hello, I have an MSI laptop with 16GB of ram, 120gb SSD, 1tb HDD, and a GTX 860M. Just recently, my screen has started going blank after a few minutes. The backlight stays on and is still adjustable, meaning the computer is still responding, but the screen does not turn on unless I either put the computer to sleep/restart the computer, in which case the display comes back and then turns off again a few minutes later.

right click start
choose power options
select change plan settings next to current plan
set monitor to never turn off or pc to never turn off

problem solved unless you use sleep.

I had something similar recently and setting screen to never turn off fixed it. Not sure why it does it, I noticed it started happening last update.
