It began to happen a couple of months ago, most likely by accident. Whenever I start Windows, I always forget to turn off the touchpad function. This makes for unintentional changes to settings by randomly grazing the touchpad.
The lastest in the series of "surprise setting changes": When images first display they are dark and difficult to view. I accidently discovered that by pressing Ctrl and + (upper case =), the images not only increase in size but also lighten up! Prerssing Ctrl and - reduces images to their previous size; image brightness remains light!

What is causing this phenomenon with dark images? What do I need to do to prevent dark images from happening again?
Thanks

Solution
check in Settings > System > Display.
under 'Brightness and color', see if you have any auto or dynamic brightness settings enabled.

if not, you should still be able to raise the overall brightness setting that may help.
