Windows 10 installation after Ubuntu 16.04: grub unknown filesystem

Hello,

I have been using Ubuntu 16.04 for a while and now I wanna install Windows 10 on the computer. I have a USB stick with it and the first part of the installation works fine.

However, when it comes to the first reboot, the system then gets stuck and shows:

error: unknown filesystem.  
grub rescue>

Typing ls lists my two hard drives but when I want to look at one, e.g. with ls (hd0,msdos1) the answer is always unknown filesystem. I have tried reformating every drive in the installation process, creating different partitions but nothing so far has worked...

I also tried the following:

set root=(hd0,1)
set prefix=(hd0,1)/boot/grub
insmod normal
normal

But still nothing changed.

Any ideas how to fix this?

* DIMM 8 GB DDR3-1333 RAM

with the windows 10 usb stick boot into dos tools. use disktool command clean all. you need to wipe the mbr of the old os.
