Currently trying to reinstall Windows 10. The setup allows me to get to the stage where I enter an account name and password, but typically when I start typing into the password, it crashes and just gives me a black screen. All of the fans run very loudly when the screen turns to black.

I have tried using an old graphics card but it does not make any difference. I'm attempting to use an old PSU tomorrow morning to see if that is any help.

First, what is the reason you are doing a reinstall? What make model drive are you trying to install windows on and what medium are you using? Are you doing a clean install, or a reset? If going a reinstall follow the instructions in this link https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-do-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10.3170366/

I've just decided to do a clean install on my SSD, no reason in particular.

I'm doing a fresh install using a USB drive. The drive doesn't seem to be the issue, I've used it before on different devices and I have also used another fresh USB drive and it produces the same results.
