Hello all,

I was hoping someone would have some insight into my issue that I'm having with my PC build.

Intel Xeon E3 Quad Core Processor
MSI Z97 Gaming-5 Motherboard
G-Skills Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4x8) DDR3-1600 RAM
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive
MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G Video Card
EVGA 500W Power Supply
Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Asus DVD Drive
TP Link Wireless PCI-express Wi-Fi Adapter

My ultimate goal is to have my computer hooked to my HDTV in my bedroom so my wife and I can use it as an all-purpose entertainment and gaming system. Problem is, it only works on my TVs maybe 1/4 of the time; When I boot up, the computer will display the MSI start up screen, then the Windows 10 loading animation, and then the screen typically just goes black (at the point where the login screen would appear). I have tried with both straight HDMI cables and DVI-HDMI converter cables (plugged into the graphics card, of course).

As I've alluded to, sometimes it will randomly work and I'll have no issues for the amount of time that I use it (when it works, I'll even reboot it or turn it off and on a few times to see if the problem was resolved and it seems fine), but I'll go to use it a few days later and the same problem will occur. When it is acting up, I can still freely access the BIOS and Windows repair screens with no issues, so I doubt it's a hardware issue. I have had friends test and confirm that each piece of hardware is working and not defective (I've even exchanged the Motherboard, Processor, and Video Card for new ones at least once each just to be extra sure). I have uninstalled and reinstalled Windows 10 at least 3 times and, when it is fresh and shiny and new, it works for a period of time, but later, no such luck (the only programs I install are Steam and Google Chrome). The really frustrating part is that, of course, when I take it to one of the two local repair shops, they can't replicate the problem and they look at me like I'm speaking Swahili.

When I say black screen, I mean totally black. No mouse cursor, no task manager, nothing. I've even tried going through the motions on my keyboard to see if I can log in and wing it from there and it doesn't seem to do anything. I can't find any similar problems anywhere on the internet and I was looking for some insight. Any idea where I should start?

Thank you for your help!

Solution
Okay, I finally solved it and am posting the solution in case anybody out there someday has a similar string of misfortune.

...it was the wireless network card. Apparently, the drivers in the card weren't compatible with the MoBo and would cause the system to randomly crash as a result. I took the card out and replaced it with a wifi dongle and the system has been amazing ever since. There were a few frustrating moments were the problem occurred again, but then I switched the dongle to the dedicated internet slot on the MoBo and smooth sailing.

So, in short, if you are doing a build and everything checks out but it STILL smells like a hardware issue, check your internet accessories.
