Windows 10 locks up during file transfer to external Hard Drive

When copying files from my hard drive to an external HD (WD My Passport 2tb) my computer slows to a point where the only thing I can do it watch the file transfer. My mouse won’t move. When I brought up task manager to see CPU usage it was below 20%. The computer was just built a week ago and the M.2 drive that I was copying from is brand new as well (ADATA SU800 M.2 2280 128GB Ultimate 3D NAND Solid State Drive (ASU800NS38-128GT-C). Any help would be great!

Gigabyte aorus X470 gaming 7
MSI GTX-970-4GD5T-OC GeForce
16gb Corsair vengeance 3000mhz
Evga 600w

Well actually I am not having issues with the copying speed. It’s copies at a decent speed and there are not problems once it’s done. It’s the fact that I’m unable to do other things while the copying is happening. The computer slows down so much but the copying speed does not fluctuate.
