just got a new laptop and somehow I ended up with a login/lock screen ( not sure which ) when I turn it on that requires the password . what I would like to do is get rid of the password stage if possible or at least change the password to a pin.

the only thing I can see to change is the sign in options but when I read it it seems as if that will change my Microsoft access password which I don't want to do ( I like my password ) can anyone help

I don't think he is asking to bypass a password, just change the need to always enter it upon start up.

I think with Windows 10 Home as soon as you setup with your MS account you have to use your MS password, I don't think you can change this with the Home version.

its hard to tell. for all we know this is a used computer and whoever gave it to them forgot to reset windows before giving it to them

on the other hand it could be stolen

It reads to me like he can get into the pc but wants to change options, could be clearer I agree. He talks about sign in options which you can only see once logged in and how to change the password to a pin. Nothing really implies how do I bypass the password. Maybe I'm being too generous.

Assuming you have the password and can login which it sounds like you can, then just type netplwiz in the search bar and run the program. Uncheck the require a password box, click ok, enter your password, click OK once more. If the password is not known we can't help you out.

thanks for the help. I understand about the security side of things but it is my new laptop which have complete control of except the password thing and the Microsoft account password it uses is not one I want to use to "log in " on. and yes it is windows home.

again thank you

From Settings -> Accounts screen, you can
- "Manage my Microsoft account" - change Microsoft account you use for logging-in. This will create new profile, with another set of Metro-style apps
- "Sign in with local account instead" - you can choose to use "local" account for logging-in. You'll need a Microsoft account every time you install Metro-style app
- "Sign-in options" - choose a pin instead of password

All this

Its just the way it reads that makes me think if I change the password it will change my m/s password aswell which I really really don't want to do .
My young son has a laptop running pro ( which I think maybe the difference) which I've been able to change the password many moons ago and from a deep dark distant memory was the same on an older dell that ungraded to 10 but not sure if pro or not and I was able to use the samel password on the dell without this issue, and as I really really really don't want to change my main m/s account I'm just trying to make sure before I commit to what should be a basic function of a laptop.

eg when I use a pin to unlock my mobile phone , th epin is to unlock the phone not change or connect to any other service it is just pin protection to help protect from loss or theft. That is all I want from windows when I switch it on
