Hey guys,

i just received a new M.2 NVMe Drive (Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 SSD) as a gift from my mates and I was wondering how you can migrate windows 10 to it. I know the whole installation process including the initialization stage and I also know that Samsung offers a migration software that clones windows 10 to the new drive but suppose i successfully migrate windows 10 to the new M.2 SSD, i would assume my old SSD (Sandisk SSD PLUS 240GB SATA3 SSD) would still contain the OS on it. So now there are two drives that contain windows 10. How do I format the old SSD to make it a general purpose drive (for installing games, documents etc.)

Solution
Assuming the new 960 EVO is larger than the total consumed space on the old drive, yes, a migration operation will probably work.
Not just the OS.

Basic steps:
Install the Samsung Migration or Macrium Reflect.
Install the new M.2
Do the clone operation.
When the operation is finished, power off
Remove the old drive
Power up, and allow the system to try to boot from the new drive.
Adjust the boot order as needed.
Assuming it works with the new drive, then you can reconnect the old drive.
Delete ALL partitions on it, in Disk Management.
Format, and give it a drive letter.
Use as desired.
