I asked on the vendor's forum about a problem with video editing. I posted up some details and 2 things were pointed out about my system report:
- as seen below, Windows reports that the adapter card has 1MB of RAM. That would be impossible, as I can have several videos playing at once and I get good fast response using the GPU to process both still and video items.
- the AMD software reports 8GB RAM
- this is maybe related, but not sure It was pointed out also that my supposed version of Win 10 is way out of date. But I have Windows check for updates, daily I think and my Windows Updater shows that it is up to date.
- if not pertinent, I will post to the appropriate forum if asked.

Thanks for any help

It does it to everyone

The value that holds the dedicated video memory size and that MSInfo32.exe uses to populate Adapter RAM is stored in the registry as a signed 32-bit integer. As a result, the value is only capable of storing a positive integer that is under 2 GB in size. If the dedicated video memory on the graphics adapter is 2 GB or greater, MSInfo32.exe will incorrectly report the amount and will also display it as a negative number.

what does DXdiag show?

It seems its shows almost every GPU has -1mb on that page. Its only a glitch in how value is stored by windows. Its a known problem.

It will only get more meaningless as GPU get more VRAM. They should replace it with a 64bit number.
I will have to look at it when I swap in a 7900 XT that has 20gb of VRAM

its not caused by windows version but
You are not that far behind on windows, newest is 19045.
You can update by downloading the Update assistant and running it - 1st link here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

Wow! Thanks for that and I never realised. I had forgotten about DxDiag. It reports the correct value.

I will report this back to the guy that brought up the issues with me.

BTW, I read that article and related stuff about external SSD's. Dirty swine! Verrry devious. Useful to know, although I think I would be wary of super cheap offers.
