Windows 10 nightmare

I don’t know where to start but basically Windows 10 is a total nightmare now. The whole OS freezes up and I have to hard reboot. The start menu bugs out and everything that should be there disappears. Performance has slowed to a crawl. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerability. My PC is basically pointless to use as I can’t get much done. It is old but I cant afford to upgrade yet. Does anyone else have similar issues?

the security patches for those threats shouldn't have that much of an effect on PC performance, in fact its been reported that MS is rolling them back.

I have been having some minor issues with my start menu since that patch came out, mainly that it doesn't display the bottom half immediately. But other than that I have had no performance issues or freezes at all.

Open task manager what is CPU, memory, and disc usage?
