Question Windows 10 no longer plays music or loads programs from optical disc

I have not used the built-in CD/DVD player in my laptop in a while. Now I can't play CD's or load software. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Device manager says the device is working properly. Anyone had this problem and solved it? Thanks.

Hello

Can you please try cleaning the optical drive's lens with a soft cloth and see if it starts working normally?

Unbelievable! I've been going in circles with Microsoft for 2 days with no success! It never occurred to me to clean it because I so seldom use it. I can finally start my taxes.

A lot of folks are blaming this phenomenon on a recent Windows 10 update. Can it really be this simple?
