Hi,

I've got a Dell Inspiron 7559 with a 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor running Windows 10. Just got it a couple of weeks ago.

It came with 8GB of ram and I wanted to add another 8GB, so I got a ValueRAM 8GB DDR3-1600MHz SODIMM, which from everything I've gathered, should be compatible.

The operating system won't recognize it though:

However, Speccy does:

Maximum memory in advanced boot options is unchecked.

I tried switching the ram sticks around to no avail. I tried using only the new ram stick, but then the laptop wouldn't boot. Is the ram stick faulty then or is it just another perk of windows 10? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same RAM sticks is always the best way to handle this and the best way to make sure you avoid issues. The RAM should default to the lower speed although if it doesn't you will need to change this manually.

May be worth testing just the other RAM on its own and see if it works

The ram stick that came with the laptop is a 8GB Single channel DDR3L 1600MHz. The one I got separately is a DDR3. Guess the 'L' makes a difference.

And the laptop wouldn't start with just the new DDR3 stick. The light on the power button just flashed but the screen didn't turn on.
