Hi,
Yesterday I tried to update my laptop to windows 10 April creators update. However, during the update, my laptop accidentally switched off. As I turn it on and log on to my account, there is a black background with the recycle bin as the only icon on the desktop. I can’t open anything because i get a message saying ‘an attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist. Also when I turn my laptop on, I get a message saying ‘location c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop is unavailable’. Now the only way I can turn my laptop on is by entering safe mode and that usually takes about 10-15 minutes. What should I do? Help asap

Solution
it looks like you are going to have to boot in to recovery mode, either off your Windows CD or a USB flash drive. I am hoping you have backed up all your Docs, Pictures and Music. After booting into Recovery Mode, be very careful. Select Startup Repair, or, refresh your PC without losing your files. Please be very careful repairing Windows. I found this thread that might be helpful. https://winaero.com/blog/start-windows-10-in-safe-mode/
