Hi all

I have an old PC I want to start up again and buy and load new Windows 10 OS installation on it. However, before I buy another Windows 10 OS license and attempt the install I have a small concern I need some help with. A friend informed me that Windows 10 / Microsoft do not support socket LGA1366 anymore and that I will not be able to revive my old PC which consists off: Intel - Core i7-950 3.06GHz Quad-Core Processor and MSI - X58 Pro-E ATX LGA1366 Motherboard ??

Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case and that I would be waisting time and cash attempting this?

Thanks
Gerhard

I have Win 10 running on a similar vintage Celeron CPU.
It should work.

You can test it easily, for free.
Just install Win 10, and skip entering the license key.
Assuming it works, and it should, then you buy the license key and apply it to that install.

Thank you for the quick response.

Sounds good, problem is I don't have the Windows 10 OS on disk or usb. Will I be able to download it as a new (fresh) installation without disk or usb when I start up?

Or is it possible to create a OS disk with my existing pc and use that?

Thanks

If that old system came with a Win 7 or Win 8 key, try entering it when installing 10.

While the free upgrade for those that use Assistive Technologies ended on Jan 16, there are many reports of clean installing with a 7 or 8 key continuing to work after that date.

And I've got probably the oldest Win 10 machine around, a single-core Pentium 4 that works perfectly, if slowly, in Windows 10. Some of those did indeed have the required XD/NX-bit + CMPXCHG16b + PREFETCHh/PrefetchW and LAHF/SAHF
