Hello, I am writing on behalf of a friend who is struggling to play certain games due to random hard-resets.

This is the information I was able to collect:

He's tried finding the dump file, but it doesn't seem to exist.
It doesn't Bluescreen, just simply shuts off and restarts.
He does not overclock.

Thanks in advance!

Well, there isn't a whole lot to go on here, but the first thing I'd check is the power supply. It might be bad. It could still be outputting enough to keep the system running, but the stress of gaming might be overdoing it. First, download AIDA 64 and FurMark. Run them both at the same time to stress the crap out of the system and see if it does the same thing. This would be an indication of a possible power issue. Your next step would be to swap the PSU with a known good one and test it again. If it works with the good power supply then replace the bad PSU.

If it isn't the PSU, then next most likely is a software issue. Roll back to a video driver from a time when you know the system worked well.

Both those things should get you started and help you narrow down your issue.

Hope that helps!

check in the bios look at the 12v rail make sure it at 12v. if it reading 11v you have a power supply that not holding within atx spec. use hardware info set it to logging and sensor see if the 12v rail is holding. also if a friend has a digital meter use it to check that the 12v lines are holding under load. have your friend also check if his evga card on recall. a few of those cards have heat issue on the vrm (no cooling) and the gpu will just die or can go up in flames whe nthe vrm fail.
