This is how it goes.

I've updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Its a very nice OS and its nice to see Microsoft Edge and all that stuff. But there is one problem on my laptop.

The CPU is AMD E1-2500 APU (1.4 GHz Dual Core ). On balanced power plan, CPU usage on idle is 2-5 %, but the CPU frequency is high, at 1.37 GHz ( CPU frequency should be 780 MHz at idle ).

Result of this high frequency is insanely fast laptop.

I have no problem with this kind of CPU behaviour but processor is hitting high temperatures , 60 degrees while watching youtube.

When I switch to power saver plan, CPU frequency stays at 780 MHz , and is at 1 - 1.2 GHz while watching youtube, and the temperatures are around 50-53 Degrees celsius ( which is normal considering that here where I live summer temperatures are high , around 30-35 degrees ).

I would stick with power saver plan but sometimes laptop goes slow so I have to use balanced.
I have checked resource monitor but there is nothing eating my CPU.

If I take the power saver plan and edit it to match the balanced power plan , it still remains at 780 MHz frequency, but when I switch to balanced power plan, it hits 1.39 GHz instantly, even if both plans are identical.

Help me out on this one. Thanks.

Hello,

On Reddit and Microsoft forums, people have claimed that the root cause of this Windows 10 memory leak and high CPU usage is due to some faulty drivers. If you have a RAID disk drive setup, update those drivers. Also, try updating the remaining hardware drivers as it’s a problem caused due to mismatching OS and drivers. It is a known fact that Microsoft has decided to take control of the update process. Still, we recommend you to update the network, graphics and sound drivers manually. This step has worked for the most of people.

Hello,

This step has worked for the most of people.

Some discussion threads suggest that Runtime Broker is one such system process that eats large chunk of CPU power due to the poor memory optimization. This process doesn’t deliver any functionality as such, so you can disable it.

To disable the Runtime Broker, open the Settings app and go to System. Inside System window, locate Notifications & Actions and deselect “Show me tips about Windows.” Now restart the PC to bring it back to the normal.
