Windows 10 Pro Networking Issues

I am working in an office where my colleagues have the same setup - Windows 10 Pro Optiplexs connecting over ethernet.

The main symptoms are:

  • Web pages are slowly loading or timing out. Some load the main page text immediately, but the spinning progress icon continues to show. Chrome says "Establishing Secure Connection" at the bottom of the window.

  • I use OpenVPN. After a reboot, this freezes and refuses to connect. The only solution is to uninstall, reboot and install it from the VPN landing page. It will continue to function until the next reboot.

I have tried disabling all network adapters which do not belong to the graphics card. I attempted a systems restore from the point prior to the problem, but this failed. I've run the network diagnostic wizard which found nothing. I've done ip release/renew/dns flush, etc - and also the network reset option in windows. There appear to be no network related errors in the event viewer. The IP and default gateway addresses look OK.

Can anyone suggest where I could find error messages relating to the issue?

Thanks in advance
Jim

Solution
Hello Spodgy

Can you please check if the DNS server is resolving the queries correctly?

If there is no DNS server in your network, please check and make sure that the Primary DNS server on your PC is set to the IP address of the router (default gateway) and the Alternate DNS server is that of either Google (8.8.8.8, 4.4.4.4, 8.8.4.4) or of your ISP.

Since you have already flushed your DNS cache, there won't be any stale records in there. However, assigning the correct DNS addresses increases the network performance remarkably.

Feel free to report back if any further assistance is needed.

Cheers!!
