Windows 10 Problem With Display/Location of Pop-Up Dialog Boxes

In every earlier version of Windows that I’ve used, when a Windows Dialog Box is generated (such as to do this, are you sure you want to do this, select an option or location, etc.), that Dialog Box appears ON TOP of the underlying screen and thus immediately visible to act upon.

Under Windows 10, I’m finding that pop-up dialogs that need to be acted upon do not necessarily appear ON TOP of the underlying screen. The dialog box may be underneath other Windows and thus I do not know it’s there unless I suspect there should be a dialog box and go hunt for it.

I suspected this problem was a matter to be resolved using the “Files and Folders” function/preferences, but I cannot find the solution.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

The warning/pop up dialog boxes are designed by default to remain on top. I'd ask you to create a bootable USB installer and perform a system restore prior to when the issue began to come around even if it came to be after a mandatory Windows update. If that doesn't work you can yet perform a repair install and see if that alleviates your issue.

Could you please pass on your full systems specs? If its a laptop please include the make and model number. If it isn't a glitch it may be a third party application bumping itself on top.

Thank you, Lutfij, but that's not exactly the problem.

My machine is a brand-new build, with first-time install of Windows 10 (so there is no "going back").

The dialogs to which I refer are not the pop-up/warning type, but smallish windows that are expected to appear (on top) when something (below) is executed. For example, on a particular Internet site, one may click a download button and, based on years of experience, expect to see a smallish window ON TOP asking to which directory the download should be sent. But since the beginning of this new Windows 10 machine, that smallish window often pops into place UNDER the main window that I am working on. Of course, the first couple of times this happened I did not know that the new/small pop-up window was on my desktop inasmuch as it was obscured by the main window on top. But now I know that when I expect to see a small window for final execution of something or another, I need to minimize the main window in order to see the smaller window that was just created (but underneath the main window).

All-in-all, I would expect to see pop-up dialogs and small windows ON TOP of everything and anything else, but with my new machine and Windows 10 I am not necessarily finding that to be the case. The big exception, i.e., where dialogs appear where they should, is on the pop-up print dialog. If, for example, I tell a program to print, the print dialog pops-up on top of everything else, as it should. Not so with other pop-up windows.

resolved the by reinstalling display driver on the affected systems
