So my question is very simple some weeks ago I bought windows 8.1 and I installed it , then windows 10 launched so I upgraded my system to windows 10 and activate it. But now I worry that I wont have it forever beceuase i'm thinking to change my hdd in like 1 year will I still be able to use windows 10? what if my hdd fail in 1year+ will I lose windows 10? or can I just simply use windows 10 iso on a usb and then use my windows 8.1 key to activate it after the one year?

Solution

the HDD is not an issue. It's the motherboard.

That's not how it works-

Has nothing to do with OEM or retail, my key is a retail key too.
Just cleaninstalled windows 10, didn't type the key once. Just pressed "skip" and "do it later"
