Hey guys,

I have recently built a new computer with the following specs

Ryzen 7 1700
Msi rx 580
16gb DDR4 hyperx ram 2666mhz
Corsair rm650 v2 psu
Samsung 970 evo 500gb nvme ssd
(old) Seagate 2tb hdd
(old) m4 126gb sad

The problem is that I have very random short hiccups where both the screen and the sound freeze for less than a second and I can hear the hdd booting click sound most of the time.
I have already put the windows energy settings to never turn the hdd off but this still happens. Is the hdd faulty? Is there any other possible reason? Thank you in advance.

Some hard drives are noisier than others. If it is old and the noise is worse, then I would suggest backing up the data off that drive. It may be beginning to fail.

As far as th freezes go, those are usually software related. Since it is a Ryzen system, update the motherboard drivers and BIOS. Next update the device drivers like your graphics driver and audio drivers.

Download and install the graphics driver directly from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download .

I have already done a fresh install of windows 10 on it but it did not help. The motherboard is an msi x370 gaming pro but the live updater software from msi does not show any available bios updates. Should I just try flashing it manually?
It's on bios version 4.0 but the official website does not give any version numbers (it says version 7A33V4) . As far as I know I have already got the latest drivers, should I try reinstalling them or something?

MSI is requiring product registration for any technical support. So I can't see anything under the support menu.

Do update the graphics driver, chipset driver and BIOS. In this situation, it is to make sure that they are the latest AND not corrupted.

For the AMD graphics driver, it is OK to use an older driver if the latest one is giving you problems.

Unfortunately the freezes still happen. I have reinstalled the chipset driver and updated the motherboard bios to the latest.
I have read that windows 10 trying to shut off hard drives might cause these stutters but I have set that setting to never already.

You can try testing your memory with memtest86. You can try running a diagnostic on tour drives.

If there are error messages, you can post those.

Also if the drivers were installed prior to the reinstall of Windows, they have to be updated again.

The graphics driver is a likely cause. If you haven't updated the BIOS, do that. If the problem is occurring after your BIOS update, it may be corrupted.

Apart from that, you can return the motherboard for a new one.
