I have a 5 year old laptop.
I was dual booting both ubuntu and windows but decided to delete ubuntu partition. The machine failed to boot so I tried to re-install windows using a bootable USB drive. I used the option of saving the old files in a separate sub directory of the new windows installation.
The problem is the machine still fails to boot - I tried deleting extra partitions and rebuilding the boot record but nothing is working.
At this point I deleted everything but the partition containing the new windows installation and my old files - can someone write step-by-step what I should do to get this working?
I don't mind wiping the whole drive after I remove my files but I can't reformat until then .
