Hello all.

I've tried resetting my windows 10 pc via the reset button in reset and recovery. But long story short is 1st time I tried it crashed on 10% and I rebooted the pc to try again. Pc rebooted signed it ect, tried reset again and no luck kept saying there was a problem. Had a play around and came across the D: and lots of my programs having empty folders. So I formatted it. Long format or what ever it was called as thought it would be safer than the quick format. Anyhow this worked tried the reset again and all went ok until it came to the new start up where the pc kept crashing mid boot 5-6 times gave me the blue screen with crash code ect. So I went to bios and going to try boot from the USB flash with windows on it and I got a blue screen saying.

"Your pc/device needs to be repaired

The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors

File: \windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
Error code: 0xc0000098

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device). Contact your PC/device manufacturer."

Is this a case of needing to clear and redownload windows 10 on the flash drive or a deeper rooted problem?

Thanks for any help

what motherboard are you using? Did you turn off secure boot before loading USB as it might be the PC is ignoring the USB and trying to boot off your normal drive

didn't know tcpip.sys was classified as essential but then windows will have problems without network access I guess.

think your windows is just dead, nothing more. Fresh install should fix it (How new is installer?)

Ok posting this as answer...

The motherboard is a Asus z97 pro wifi. I set the bios to boot from the USB.

Will I need to redownload windows 10 on the USB to boot it again?

And when I done the reboot it claimed it couldn't delete all my personal files will i need to format both the ssd and hdd. I had the operating sustem on the ssd and everything else on the hdd. Is it possible to do this now as I don't fancy getting the drives out and doing it on another pc

Thank you Colif a great help. Had to download windows 10 as an ISO on USB then run the rufus "download/trick" to get it to install. And pc fired and installed it to the ssd again and now just updating and installing drivers again

Well it seems I'm partly fixed. I've had to do another clean install as nothing was running of my :d drive. I formatted it then done the clean install i should add. I got my PC to register as a flash drive so downloaded windows again to a USB and followed the before steps. Downloaded all of windows updates and Nvidia plus Asus AI suite and CFos plus the Asus armoury for the mouse and keyboard. That when I came to steam and origin while downloading and installing games i've had the blue screen with and error code WHEA_Uncorrectable_error several times. once its rebooted it continues downloading. Once downloaded I've had the same blue screen with same error code while installing sometimes not always. I can then play but occasionally had the same blue screen while playing so I downloaded NZXT Cam software to check that I wasn't over heating while playing. which all seemed within limits. like CPU got to a max of 45c and GPU like 60c I think, will need to play and make sure on GPU. But then I've had the blue screen once I've put the password to login to the computer and on that load screen after a previous crash and will then run fine till it crashes again.

To put a long story short I've no idea whats causing the problems if something is failing.

Colif I sort of wish i had an optical drive to rule out windows being slightly wrong on the USB. but could be anything I guess but its got me looking into new components rather than what I've already got basically just build a new one and sell this one for parts or scrap it.

Thanks for any help
