Windows 10 reset slow-1%per 12 hours

I upgraded from windows 7 to 10, then did a reset (reformat, the more thorough option that takes longer and deletes drives, not just files). At first it went at a decent speed but got stuck on 74%, i waited 10 hours and it miraculously was not frozen, it advanced to 75%, 16 hours later it was at 77% (where it is now). What is going on? Should I wait it out (at this speed will be another week).

My pc has 8gm ram 500gb hd with at least 100gb free space. Good but old pc. I can wait as long as its normal

I backed up all the data I wanted to keep onto an external drive. at 1pm it was at 77% and then 14 hours later at 3 am (now) it went up 2% to 79%. so it is moving but should I wait the five days or so it seems it will take to finish?

Was the a reason for the reset? sound like it either ran out of disk space or the disk is falling.
