Hello everyone,

I've searched a lot on google before posting this thread, tried best possible using different ways including enabling and disabling the fast boot option on windows 10.

This problem is happening after upgrading windows 8.1 (The one which came pre-installed with this laptop)to windows 10.

The problem is, when (After using for some time) i shut down the laptop, all apps close and the screen turns of normally after displaying "Shutting Down" - all this happens normally as it should, but when the screen goes, the laptop's system keeps powered on and keep consuming battery. Even when i plug in usb, the usb lights as if the system is on, i can hear the fan of system running too.

Same problem is being faced by my friend too on his desktop computer, all cpu lights stay on..

Even then it won't even power on by pressing the power key,

The only solution to this is to hold the power botton for few seconds for it to shut down and then repress it to turn it on.

I've searched on google, a lot of people are facing this same problem, after trying everything, i just went to the "Recovery" from settings and performed a refresh of windows on my laptop, so everything is cleaned and its just like new, but the shut down problem is still here!

Any experienced person? Please help. You're help on this will be very much appreciated.

My Laptop = Dell Inspiron 15 3542
Operating system : Windows 10 home (Upgraded from windows 8.1 OEM)
Processor: i3 4th Generation
Ram: 4GB

Looking up your Laptop on Dell's driver download site shows that there is a BIOS update available for your unit)+(Version A09). Please perform the BIOS update, download and install all your drivers found in the above link and the last part which leads me to ask is if you own an Nvidia GPU on your unit? If you do then have you tried installing the latest drivers for it? As of now Nvidia have version 359.06 on their driver download site.

Likewise you can try and perform a sfc / scannow and see if it alleviates your problem. have you also thought of performing a clean install provided you don't have critical data on the partition your OS is installed in?

Regarding your friend, you can ask him to open a thread here and we'll try and take a look at the issue in depth(if possible).
