I booted up my PC today to find that my desktop had mysteriously hidden all of my shortcut icons. My taskbar was untouched, just everything else had disappeared.

Things got a lot worse when I tried to look into my Desktop folder in Windows Explorer. It scanned the folder for about 10 seconds before Explorer crashes. This happens every time. All of my C:/ missing from Explorer - when I tried to go through Steam to launch a random installed game, the application just crashed. Explorer won't even open now.

What's the problem here? Is this some kind of weird virus (that will then require to reinstall Windows 10?). I do torrent a a couple of things a week -- mostly US TV shows -- but could a virus have snuck in that way? Or is this a different issue altogether?
