i have 2 hdds plugged in one with windows (c) and one with games apps ... i am upgrading to an ssd
do i backup the files on the c and install the windows on the ssd or do i backup the files on the d and install the windows on the ssd

When you install have nothing else plugged in except the SSD, this is important.

Once installed you can wipe anything you don't mind losing, keep it for a couple of weeks perhaps to be sure, but then format the drive that had your old windows on, leave the games on the other drive, when you install steam tell it where your steam folder is, and it may check when you try and play, but that'll be it, ditto with other games providers.

so just to clarify
i unplug both hdds and install windows to ssd
i replug the d (one with the programs ) and i can use all my data stored on it which is compatible to win10
i replug the c and format it
