Windows 10 will not boot. EXTREMELY SLOW.

I will start this from the very beginning.

Pt.1: One day, I am playing Dark Souls 3 on a Windows 10 64-bit system. Suddenly, one of my characters does not load. Infinite loading screen, no progress. All other characters load instantly. I try to re-install the game. Game will not finish downloading/installing. Steam says error "corrupt disk" for the reason of download pause.

Pt. 2: I google solutions. I find a page that suggests I check my disk for errors. This one:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9709-FKCB-4230

I reset to see if the fix worked. No change. I leave my home and I return later to find that my computer has reset into a bootloop. "Diagnosing PC...".

Pt. 3: I'm able to reach the Start Up Menu, however... the system will not boot. Safe mode will not boot. All repairs fail, resulting in no changes. Booting from USB repairs fail. The USB boot demands to see the desktop to install a new copy of windows. I have no restore points. Everything takes 45+ minutes to change/move.

Pt. 4: I follow this man's solution through the command prompt:

I am able to reach the password screen with my custom wallpaper. No password field loads. The power, network, and ease of access buttons still sit at the bottom right of the screen. Still not able to access desktop. Trying to use everything takes 4-5 minutes. (things like clicking the power button, or even scrolling over it).

This is as far as I've gotten. What is the problem, and what is the solution?

on another PC, follow these instructions to create a bootable version of Seatools which is the tool created by Seagate to test their hard drives. I suspect your drive is on its way out as load times shouldn't be that long.

is there anything on C drive you want to rescue? try making this on another PC: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

what are specs of PC? what hdd/ssd do you have? it sounds like one of them is not working right.

I assume you hit space bar on screen where it has the power, network and ease of access, as that normally makes the login screen appear

Mobo: Biostar ta970
HDD: Seagate 1tb
Memory: PNY XLR8 16GB
CPU: AMD FX 8320
GPU: Zotac GTX 980
PSU: EVGA Nova 650w

I have hit space at the login screen. It waits a long time before showing me between only the background and the three options in the bottom right corner.

So over the last couple days I ran a few different commands and was able to reach the desktop. From there I was able to salvage whatever crucial files I needed. Granted, this process took an extremely long time. That can only tell me that the hdd is about done. So, I replaced it yesterday and all is well.

Thanks for the tips, my friend!
