Windows 10 will not boot

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. Everything worked fine. I left my pc on the other night to download some things and the next morning it is showing a black screen with a flashing underscore and does not boot. I have the os installed on a 3 year old Intel SSD. I already checked the SATA cable and the boot priorities. I doubt the drive is faulty but I need some advice before I drop cash on another SSD or reinstall windows.

I would expect a faulty boot drive to trigger an on-screen error "No bootable media found" or words to that effect.

Possibly, but I did read that when you get the flashing underscore it means that its waiting for something that is bootable.
