Hi everyone, I recently upgraded the ram in my HP Elietebook 2740p from 4GB to 8GB using Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 204-Pin SODIMM Memory For Mac CT2K4G3S1339M (Notebook) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LTBIT4?&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) and now it will not boot into Windows. I can boot into the BIOS and the ram is registered there but as soon as windows begins to boot it shuts down and after a few seconds turns back on, its an endless cycle.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Since it is seen and registered in the BIOS I'm assuming its a windows 10 issue

I read that it can use higher clock ram it just won't run at the max speed. Plus, if that was the issue, wouldn't the laptop not boot at all? As I said I can enter the BIOS setup

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but the same problem. I had 3x2gb DIMMs in an Asrock X58Extreme. I purchased 3 additional identical DIMMs but Windows will not boot with it installed. The POST is OK. The 12gb is recognized, but Windows will not boot. I have tried booting to an older Windows 7 HDD but this will also not boot. Either arrangement goes into a disk repair process that ultimately ends in a BSOD. I have been able to boot to a Windows 8 installation disk with the 12gb of RAM when the HDDs are disconnected.
I don't believe this is a RAM problem, rather a Windows issue. Either way I don't know how to resolve this. Any suggestions would be welcome.

i had similar situation with ASUS X52J with RAM 4GB, i bought 8GB stick with higher speed. Bios did register it but windows 10 failed with same error code.
I replaced 8gb with lower speed and it worked well.

By taking the advice of other users on this site I solved my problem. The solution was to increase the DRAM voltage just 1 step above the automatic setting and it worked ok.

I think this is the answer:
Some laptops requires lower Voltage in which some dimms shows for example PC3-12800 or PC3L-12800S right?
PC3 is standard voltage (1.50V) where PC3L is low voltage (1.35V) - A system which requires PC3L cannot support PC3 RAM. PC3L RAM will work in aPC3 based system as it will run at the standard voltage and will inter-operate withPC3 RAM within the system.
