When I try to boot up my PC in Windows 10 the screen goes black, and there is a blinking white cursor on the top left of the screen. I'm no expert but I am pretty sure that means there is no OS on the selected disk.

Windows 10 startup repair has no effect.

I also just found out that my auto-backup stopped when I upgraded from 7, around a year ago.

So anyway, I am able to look into the actual disk in question by live-booting tails. there is nearly 1TB of files on there and I'm wondering what's the best course of action here?

is there any way I can convince my computer that there actually is a windows install on this disk?

Use Tails to get you personal files out of there and while you're in tehre, you can see if the Windows system is in place. Folders such as Users, Program Files and Windows are a bit of a hint.

StartUp repair should offer you Reset or Refresh. If your files are safe elsewhere, it matters not which one you choose because both can wreck your data but will reinstall Windows 10. It also offers you Command Prompt - use that to run Checkdisk.
