The title is the question. I've seen a lot of internet traffic about 24H2 most of it not so good even now. Also see some YouTubes comparing gaming performance of 10 vs 11 with 10 coming out on top. Now I know bungling MS will eventually fix most of 24H2 but is it worth weeding through all that on a new install?

So how bad is 24H2 currently? Should I avoid it and do an upgrade from 10 to 11 later?

On all of my Win 11 systems, Home and Pro, they are running 24H2 with zero issues.

Windows 11 has been a nightmare. It started fine but if MS pushes 24H2 even when it shouldn't, you're screwed.

VERY FIRST thing you should do regardless, add a local account alongside your MS account and if you use Windows Hello, turn off "For enhanced security... allow Hello only".

Look it up, you can and will get screwed. I was hard locked from logging in both in "prod" and safe mode. I disabled Hello via registry, still couldn't get in. Enabled built-in Admin, wouldn't show up. Injected a local user with a very hacky solution, could not elevate privileges.

So TLDR Win 11 is Schrödingers Cat. Both perfectly fine and a ticking time-bomb.

I did upgrade a Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 and eventually 24H2, and the machine has no issues. My main machine is Windows 11 Pro 24H2, and this feels faster than the version before that. I am happy with both.

These are not game machines, and they have typical configurations.

I have another system that doesn't have a supported processor; I most likely will be forcing a 24H2 on it in the next 3 months.

My daughter hasn't had any problems either. But these are all single data points - hardly a consensus one way or the other. It would be helpful to see a list of specific issues that are current right now. That's a hopeless quest it seems. I don't even know what 'Hello' is so likely not to have that problem but there is a host of different things both hardware and software related that have official fixes or workarounds and others that don't.

Just bought a Wind 11 Pro key so taking the plunge . . . .
