I am currently using Windows 10 on a new build. The product key is not activated yet--this is an issue that I posted in the Windows 10 sub-forum. I am going to purchase a product key directly from Windows. I am thinking that it's best to purchase the Windows 10 product key, and then update to Windows 11 down the road.
How long will Microsoft offer the free update to Windows 11? I built a new pc, so I think all of my hardware should have W11 drivers. I'm hesitant to update to W11 right away due to it being new, and me being afraid that some of my drivers may not be supported.

Hello!

After buying that license key from Microsoft, you’ll be able to, simply, download the Windows 11 ISO, put it on a USB flash drive, and...
if they did the same thing as windows 7 to windows 10.
pretty much forever or when windows 7 go unsupported
I thought the upgrade wasn't available for W7 to W10 after a certain time period. I recall, when I wanted to update, that you had to use odd work arounds to update to W10.....seemed like Microsoft offered the upgrade for a while, then stopped. The upgrade was still available, but it just wasn't as simple to do if I had done it when initially offered.

11 seems to be pretty much an update of 10 rather than a full-fledged new version like going from 7 to 10. They may never charge 10 users for moving to 11.

Quite a few people here are running 11 with no significant issues. Seems to be a bit of confusion as to where stuff is, but that's cosmetic.

If your new build is Intel 12th generation with a CPU that has E cores, you might want to reconsider and go directly to 11?

That’s the best way to do it.

Then, you’ll be able to download and install the latest drivers from your motherboard & GPU vendors.
Some drivers might be labeled as for Win11, others for Win10. But they’ll all work on Windows 11.

I hope this helps...

You can still upgrade from 7 to 10, and it officially ended years ago... so I expect there is no end date on the free upgrade from 10 to 11, if your pc can run it.

differences between 10 & 11 are minor, all win 10 drivers should work on it, so many companies not really making them until they have to update drivers.
