News Windows 11 Insiders surprised by return of Vista startup sound — it’s a bug not a feature, says MS exec

I read up until Vista sound and was going to say MS has certifiably lost it.
The last part has confirmed however that MS officially has no idea what they are doing and just butchering Windows.

Not just that but why is any Vista code, files or otherwise anywhere near or even open while updating Win11?

They need to stop getting 24H2 to work. Start over from scratch. Push a big update that scrubs** 24H2 away and replaces it.

"*Way things have been going MS will wipe people's entire drive "by accident".

Office team never seems to have issues that cause aggravation the way Windows team does. It is very odd that this is the only product Microsoft seems to have that is always mired in new controversies caused by corporate. Visual Studio team? What other major products?

Perhaps it just isn't reported. Could be that.

Not sure about that... I have customers on Microsoft 365 on very fast netowrks and it is a dog... My relationship with some of my clients is such that I actually have a login/email on their company domains and have assigned computers that I connect to via VPN/RDP.. so I use their instances of Microsoft 365... Oh my word... what a dog. So much worse that than the previous release of Office 365.

They did. A few people lost all their data with the first release of 1809 for Windows 10.
That issue had even been reported to Microsoft by insiders before the official release, but they released it anyway.
And those people didn't have proactive backups because...why?

Failed update, dead drive, ransomware....all easily recoverable.

Yes, absolute fail by MS.
But lost data? Thats all on you....

Win11 was relatively okay up until 24H2 when they added in Windows on Arm support and suddenly quite a few things are broken.
Before 24H2, it was just Win10 with a new skin and ridiculous TPM requirements.

Currently Win11 24H2 has the features of...
Win8's confusing new UI that doesn't do what you want it to do
Vista's incompatibility with older hardware (lack of TPM), unless you go through hoops.
XP and Vista's sound driver issues, but it's more like Win11 resets the sound settings after each update
Vista's sluggishness

And on top of all that, it still siphons all your data, you can't set it up without an internet connection, and you still pay a license for it.

i call bs. either some rogue dev put the windows sound file in(unlikely), or they thought it sounded good in a board meeting and then when there was backlash they back pedaled(likely). personally i wouldn't mind a start up sound from the past.

I meant specifically Windows 11 but do recall that news on Windows 10 but I wasnt affected.

You assume everyone on this planet is tech savvy. You think Granny or non-computer people know to do this? Working in IT people don't even know what the GD Start Menu, Windows button or other ways of describing it is. It's hard to even know as an average person what is and isn't backed up when OneDrive which is intrusively force installed and a pain to truly get rid of is inconsistent at backing up.

It's like if I were dunking on you if in a discussion of proper engine rebuilding, audio theory, firearms, I bet there is something you use if even infrequently and don't do something obvious.

its because windows 7 8 10 and 11 are still windows Vista under the hood,, it took 10 years to make vista wich started before xp was even released,, people think after Vista they made a new OS,, no the just kept adding and making changes to Vista,, it the same OS today , and they forgot to remove the startup sound on this release as its code is vista

Totally agree with your comments about Microsoft 365, I am "stuck" with it on my work PC as our email provider requires it. Slow, is being generous...

I quite liked Vista... I mean it was a decent user experience if your threw the powerful hardware available at the time at it. they did however take forever to fix those HP printer drivers...
