Hi folks,

I have had this problem for some time. Have gone around and around with Dell Tech Support to no avail.
My Dell G7 laptop randomly shuts itself off.

Event viewer gives the following:

The process C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe (DESKTOP-61C3S6T) has initiated the power off of computer DESKTOP-61C3S6T on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
Reason Code: 0x500ff
Shutdown Type: power off
Comment:

It produces no Memory.dmp file nor are there any Minidump files.

Dell is determined it is a Windows 11 problem and reinstall of Win 11 will fix it. I have reinstalled Win11 with no fix.

Anyone got any ideas or answers?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't it funny how tech support has gotten so wary of actually faulting the hardware and taking responsibility for the warranty and service to a paying customer?

I actually have no idea the exacts of the causation here, but a "something to try" IMO would be to create another administrator account. Use it to delete the current admin account then go and create a standard user account. Log into that and see if the issue persists.

I would guess you have already used the tool Dell has for drivers and troubleshooting? (Support Assistant)

Thanks for your suggestions. Yep, tried support assistant. The new accounts don't help either.

Appreciate the help!

Maybe some help there. Said something about turning off hibernate while plugged in.

Also thinking if you can test laptop with a couple of 2x2 strips of wood to float laptop higher off desk and see if it still shuts off , it just needs some breathing room.

It doesn't hibernate or restart. Just shuts down. On a block keeping it about 2 inches up in the back. Unit gets very warm and I think heat related....Dell won't agree.

Well, just got a new Dell Tech. Checked the reliability report. Uninstalled Alienware Command Center and reinstalled. Said that was causing crashes. fingers crossed !! Thanks for the help!!!

Download HWMonitor (free) and monitor the temps both at idle and under full load. Post screenshots of the HWMonitor display in each case.

If you've had the laptop for some time it may just be in need of a good clean. Ensure that the finned heat exchanger next to the fan (or fans) is clean of dust and fluff. That's where ALL the cooling is done and you need a clean airflow through that heat exchanger.
