Hello All

I'm not sure if my Samsung 990 Evo Plus 1TB NVMe Host Memory buffer is working or not, as it no longer shows it in CrystalDiskinfo or Samsung Magician, just shows PCie 4

Hardware Info shows it is supported & enabled

So confused here, any tips or suggestions?

I performed the reset since i was having two problems:
#1. Windows Store updating same apps daily
#2. Seeing Double Onedrive in Explorer (now fixed)

Should i have just done a clean install, and disconnected the other drives, and avoided this whole mess--Had to Reset Twice just to get it fixed as it is now, but if my Host Memory buffer is not working, then i might be forced into yet another install once Real Life crap is outta the way.

((Not an expert at all)), probably cause my own issues more than ever

That's how I tend to do it. A clean install with all drives disconnected ensures that the OS partitions aren't spread across drives(unbeknownst to you).

Did the Reset since i was having 2 Problems
Resets, IMHO, have been hit or miss for me. I just go with a full format/reinstall.

Well guess when i have the time with Real Life, i'll fix this Desktop up 1 more time, who knows might even eliminate the Sata 1TB drive, and just store my Media Files on external drive, as think will be easier to remove just the 2nd M.2 with MSI Ez-Clip if i ever need to in the future--which i hopefully won't too often)

I admit I was rushing as Real Life Townhome inspection coming up for tomorrow, so i was probably rushing when i shouldn't have even done the resets in first place, and just fixed it on Wednesday or Thursday

After the First Reset i had Double Personal OneDrive in File Explorer, but the store app problem was fixed lmao

Second Reset was probably bad idea lol?

Is Desktop Safe to use for Tonight? or should i switch to using Gaming Laptop for rest of the evening?

Updates the Windows 11 USB later tonight, saves it til Wednesday or Thursday, and cleans system up proper

Maybe just a different version of the Samsung Magician app which now doesn't show it? If HWInfo says it's enabled, then it's working, or at least it's available, and Magician was probably not doing anything more than displaying that same status. If Windows was really cramped for RAM it can reduce the allocation, but I can't imagine any system being so bad that it desperately needed to recover 64MB of memory. You can use VLO's nvme-hmb tool in Windows to look at the status, under the NVME utility section here: http://vlo.name:3000/ssdtool/

Multiple resets of Windows can't hurt anything. It's just restoring all the system files to a specific state, which won't be any different each time you do it. And even if HMB wasn't working for some reason, it's not absolutely required (SATA drives work fine without it and without DRAM). It improves performance a little bit while also extending the life of the flash by storing metadata like the flash translation layer in RAM rather than constantly writing updates to the flash chips themselves. Unless you were hammering the drive with full drive writes during a short time it was disabled you'd never be able to tell the difference in lifespan and for basic use like browsing and videos you couldn't tell a difference in performance. (Even if it was never enabled, the difference in lifespan might not be significant. Going from 5 years of life to 4.5 is irrelevant if you'd replace the drive in 3 anyway, and a 6 month variance in lifespan could happen even with HMB working. And a USB drive or an internal SATA drive doesn't have HMB functionality but they get along fine and we don't worry about them failing because of it.)

Got it!

Somehow it fixed itself after a restart, logged in first into System Admin Account--Now Samsung Magician Reads all correct, signed out of System Admin Local account, back into my Standard MS Account--opened Samsung Magician, and now reads right on normal usage account

So looks like i don't have to do another clean install after all

appears all my system issues finally all solved

As long as original problem doesn't return why I did the system resets in first place. Ms app store downloading same app updates daily

Guess I'll see how system runs next few days and go from there

Yes I will run those soon as I can after some Real Life stuff today

The real life stuff coming up was the reason I was in a hurry to get system as much as back to normal as possible- annual townhome inspection, plus all the cleaning before this

Well i can look into that further if need be in that case. No idea what screwed it up in first place

Should I run those Powershell commands from Standard Microsoft Account or Admin account (Local Account) if I have anymore Microsoft App store problems
