[SOLVED] Windows 11 - Windows won't Maximise Fully ?

Hello

This is Windows 11 Pro - fully up to date.

It's still happening now and then - and I'm pretty sure now that it happens after or during gaming.
Eg I just exited Insurgency Sandstorm via Steam and it's doing it again...

Not sure if it's just that game or just Steam or other games/launchers too?
I'm also wondering if it has something to do with Geforce Experience?
I don't really want to uninstall it cause I like that it notifies me of driver updates.
It's just a guess?

There's got to be a reason and or fix?

Much rather try to find it before I do a fresh install - makes no sense.

I don't get it - the Display Resolution is the correct 1440p and yet I've just noticed that now Windows won't Maximise Fully?
There's a weird 'mid-riff' gap between the taskbar and the rest of the 'Maximised' window?

It's everything - Windows Settings, Browser whatever?

Any ideas?

i prefer to fix problems rather than tell people to go back
and when a problem cannot be fixed without a fresh install,
and then more different problems that cannot be fixed continue to popup with a fresh install,
and reverting to previous restore points over and over still leads to later issues with the UI,
the better option is to just go back and wait for a more reliable iteration in the future.

and then with a later supposedly more stable iteration being installed and having new issues with the UI that also cannot be fixed without fresh installing again,
the better option is definitely to let them sort it out themselves and continue to wait while using a much more reliable OS.

but if someone is happy rewriting Microsoft OS...
Windows 11 still shows lots of different bugs between different installations.
best to leave it be for now and let other users work out all of the issues with Microsoft and install when\if it's finally "ready".
even though these are listed as official OS builds the software is still in troubleshooting and development phase.

Yeah a little late for that since it's my installed Windows... besides I have a brand new PC so it makes sense to use the latest Windows.

There must be a fix and/or cause.

cheers

not when it still shows so many different random bugs with it's UI on so many different installations.

that's not true at all.
i've already installed twice and reverted back to 10 both times due to different issues popping up.

but if someone is happy rewriting Microsoft OS code and are capable of editing/fixing an OS root issue themselves, that's really awesome.
those people should probably be spending their time working for a big software developer and not just moderating public forums then.

So does it do that for anything that you open after the game or just settings?
I had assumed the problem was that Settings wouldn't go full screen. But if its all programs

You might need to test and see if it is after other games or not.

I wonder if it this - link
there is a fullscreen bug with game in win 10, not sure what it does though.
But basically the new fullscreen mode in Windows 10 will cause input lag, stuttering and FPS loss in some titles. Sandstorm seems to be one of them, at least for me. By running the game in EFS mode like it would run on Windows 7 or 8, you can get rid of these issues.

Hey Colif

From memory it's fine when you're playing the game - but when you exit the gap affects everything in windows... everything.

Like the curtains don't reach the floor - about a foot too high.

BTW can someone add this paragraph below to my OP just after I mention Game Launchers...

I'm also wondering if it has something to do with Geforce Experience?

done

I am curious if its something to do with the game mode that Insurgency uses, and not switching properly once its finished.

Is it only in that Game? Have you played this on windows 10 before?

I wouldn't expect it to be Nvidia drivers. Its like the desktop space windows can use is seen to occupy less space once you exit launcher. I don't know what would cause that but it sounds like settings not drivers.

Something is telling windows this is full screen dimensions after you exit this game.
I don't think its screen scaling as the text is still the right size, if it had scaled to 4k you wouldn't be able to read it.
Taskbar being in right place makes me think its not drivers, or Geforce experience itself.

Try doing a clean boot, it will remove Geforce experience from startup temporarily so that you can run game and see if you get same reaction afterwards, without removing it from PC. It just stops it running at startup, can easily reverse actions

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any Microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Its always possible its not what you think. If clean boot fixes, test all your start up apps out, just in case.
